About Fort Perch Rock

Built of Sandstone from Runcorn Quarry, this Napoleonic design from 1804 was late to the Banks of the River Mersey.

In favour of adding further protection to the South, the design from Captain John Kitson was rejected. However by 1826, the request for a Defence Battery at Black rock was finally accepted and work got underway and was completed by 1829.

During WW2, the Fort was armed with several Anti Aircraft Guns and other forms of weaponry.

To disguise the fort from German Bombers, the interior of the Fort Courtyard was painted Green and the words "Tea Rooms" Painted in white on the Office Roof. It worked...

Did you know that the fort was also the location of the first shot to be fired during WWI?

We also have loads of weird and wonderful stories including Ghost Tales of New Brighton to tell so Come and join us to learn more about the Mysteries of the Seaside Resort on our Evenings inside the Fort
